Pacific Airlines' accumulated losses exceed 10,000 billion dong

Pacific Airlines, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, reported a loss of 565 billion dong last year, bringing its accumulated losses to 10,675 billion dong by the end of 2025.

According to a report from Vietnam Airlines' supervisory board, Pacific Airlines' revenue for 2025 was estimated at over 453 billion dong. The company's operating costs totaled approximately 1,018 billion dong, with air transport accounting for almost 41% (417,5 billion dong). The remaining costs included interest on late payments and aircraft lease fees.

Consequently, Pacific Airlines recorded a loss of over 565 billion dong last year. By 31/12/2025, the subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines had accumulated losses totaling 10,675 billion dong.

Pacific Airlines' overdue liabilities amounted to nearly 4,528 billion dong by the end of last year. The supervisory board indicated that this situation could lead to lawsuits from lessors and creditors, debt recovery measures, and the emergence of legal and financial obligations.

Vietnam Airlines holds 98,84% of Pacific Airlines' charter capital. The national airline's parent company has provisioned 100% of its investment in Pacific Airlines, totaling 633 billion dong. Vietnam Airlines is also developing a plan to transfer its entire capital contribution in Pacific Airlines.

Previously, Pacific Airlines consistently reported losses in the thousands of billions of dong from 2020 to 2023. However, the low-cost carrier unexpectedly announced a profit of over 2,500 billion dong in 2024. This occurred after the airline negotiated and returned all aircraft to lessors, resulting in a debt write-off of approximately 4,284 billion dong for lease fees and late payment interest.

Since then, Pacific Airlines has been leasing aircraft from Vietnam Airlines to maintain its operations. Last year, Pacific Airlines utilized an average of 2,6 aircraft under a flight operation cooperation agreement with its parent company. On 15/6, the two parties extended their cooperation agreement for flight operation and aircraft leasing services.
