Petrolimex appoints new CEO

Petrolimex has appointed Luu Van Tuyen, former deputy general director, as its new CEO, following the prosecution of Dao Nam Hai.

Luu Van Tuyen, former deputy general director, has been appointed CEO of Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) for a 5-year term, effective 18/7.

Born in 1969, Mr. Tuyen holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in economics. He joined Petrolimex in 2002 as a member of the Supervisory Board and has held several key positions, including chief accountant (2012-2019).

He served as deputy general director from 2019 until his recent appointment. In June 2023, he also became a member of Petrolimex's Board of Directors.

Mr. Tuyen currently represents the State capital held by the Ministry of Finance in Petrolimex, corresponding to 93.5 million PLX shares, or 7.23% of the company's capital. However, neither Mr. Tuyen nor his relatives own any personal shares in the company.

Previously, Petrolimex dismissed Dao Nam Hai from the position of CEO and suspended his membership on the Board of Directors on 30/5. Following this, chairman of the Board of Directors, Pham Van Thanh, the legal representative of the group, took over Mr. Hai's responsibilities, leading Petrolimex from 8/5 until the new CEO was appointed. The State capital in Petrolimex, formerly represented by Mr. Hai, was also transferred to Mr. Thanh.

On 7/7, a representative of the Police Department for Investigating Crimes of Corruption, Smuggling, and Economic Crimes (C03) announced that Mr. Hai had been prosecuted for bribery related to activities at Petrolimex Insurance Corporation (PJICO).
