The award marks a significant step in the technological mastery journey of Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemical Corporation (PVFCCo-Phu My), a member unit of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam).
According to a company representative, the project cluster is the result of over 20 years of research and improvement since the plant began commercial operation in 2004. Over 2,000 technical solutions were developed and implemented synchronously, focusing on 4 main objectives: increasing plant capacity; optimizing operations and reducing raw material and fuel consumption; enhancing maintenance efficiency; and developing new products and expanding applications. These efforts enabled the Phu My fertilizer plant to operate stably beyond its designed capacity, while also reducing production costs, improving product quality, and boosting market competitiveness.
Many important technical improvements have been implemented. The ammonia plant, for instance, saw its capacity increase by around 20%. The urea plant was optimized to achieve a daily output of 2,500 to 2,534 tons, simultaneously reducing energy consumption compared to its original design. Alongside technological optimization, PVFCCo-Phu My also accelerated the adoption of advanced maintenance models, including predictive maintenance (PdM), condition-based maintenance (CBM), and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM). These solutions help reduce downtime, extend continuous operating cycles, and enhance equipment reliability.

Beyond production efficiency, the project cluster also generated substantial economic value, with an estimated total exceeding 3,157 billion VND. The development of new product lines, such as smart fertilizers and high-tech NPK, has diversified the product portfolio, better meeting the needs of the domestic agricultural market.
From an environmental and sustainable development perspective, the technological solutions help reduce emissions and conserve energy, aligning with the goal of carbon neutrality (Net Zero) by 2050. The Phu My fertilizer plant is also recognized as a green, clean, and beautiful plant model within the industrial production sector.
According to the company representative, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award acknowledges PVFCCo-Phu My's innovative achievements. It also highlights their capability in mastering technology, optimizing operations, and promoting digital transformation in manufacturing. This achievement strengthens the company's position within Petrovietnam's gas-power-fertilizer-chemical chain, contributing to energy security, food security, and sustainable development objectives.
The Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award, launched in 2015, is presented every five years. Petrovietnam reviews and bestows the award to honor outstanding scientific and technological achievements in the oil and gas and energy sectors.
