Saigon Co.op anticipates double-digit sales growth during national day holiday

Saigon Co.op is rolling out promotions on approximately 5,000 items at over 800 points of sale from 27/8 to 9/9, expecting a significant increase in purchasing power during the national day holiday to contribute to its 10% growth target for 2026.

Saigon Co.op is preparing for a surge in consumer spending during the five-day national day holiday, which is projected to boost shopping, dining, and entertainment across many localities. To capitalize on this period, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) has increased its inventory and launched a series of promotional programs. The retailer anticipates double-digit growth in system-wide retail revenue compared to the same period last year.

From 27/8 to 9/9, customers shopping at over 800 Saigon Co.op points of sale and via online channels can access discounts, cashback offers, bonus points, and gifts. The promotions primarily target essential product categories, including fresh food, processed food, packaged food, vegetables, fruits, beverages, household goods, and other consumer staples.

Saigon Co.op has identified the period from 31/8 to 2/9 as the peak sales period, featuring "buy more, save more" programs, hourly promotions, special offers for member customers, and back-to-school gifts.

One of the exclusive programs for member customers is "Instant Gifts - Shop with Passion". Customers who purchase two cartons of Dutch Lady UHT fresh milk from the eligible product list will receive a 50,000 dong shopping voucher. Each membership card can receive a maximum of five vouchers during the program period.

Beyond invoice-based discounts, Saigon Co.op is hosting the "Spreading Happiness at 30" program. On 2/9, the first 30 member customers who make any purchase while wearing red attire will receive a gift. On 5/9, 50 students and children accompanied by member customers shopping at the system will also receive gifts from the program.

At Co.opmart, Co.opmart Pro, and Co.opXtra, the "Mega Bonus Points - Celebrating National Day" program runs from 31/8 to 2/9. Member customers with invoices from 200,000 dong will receive 29 bonus points credited to their accounts. The first 29 customers each day with invoices of one million dong or more will receive up to 1,000 bonus points.

Following the national day holiday peak, the "X2 Discount Day" program will continue until 9/9 for Silver, Gold, and Platinum member customers. Customers with invoices from 300,000 dong will have their bonus points doubled, up to a maximum of 100 points per day per card.

Concurrently, the "Celebrate the Grand Holiday - Join the Sale Party" special promotion runs from 27/8 to 2/9, focusing on packaged food and private-label items. Member customers purchasing products from this promotion with an invoice of 400,000 dong or more will receive a 5% cashback voucher, up to a maximum of 30,000 dong per invoice, for use on their next purchase until 9/9.

Saigon Co.op stated that these peak shopping programs not only stimulate demand during the holiday but also expand market access for domestic products. Over 30 years of Co.opmart's development, Vietnamese goods have constituted a large proportion of the system's merchandise, creating additional distribution channels for local businesses and manufacturers.

According to Saigon Co.op, the system currently maintains a proportion of over 90% Vietnamese goods in its merchandise structure. The private-label product group alone features over 2,500 product codes, developed in collaboration with more than 100 manufacturers.

The enterprise anticipates robust growth in shopping demand during the five-day holiday, especially in TP HCM, major urban centers, tourist destinations, and areas experiencing high visitor numbers. Saigon Co.op projects a double-digit increase in system-wide retail revenue during this period compared to last year.

To prepare for the peak purchasing period, Saigon Co.op has collaborated with suppliers, increasing inventory for high-demand product groups. It has also boosted staffing, operational capacity, and delivery services. These preparations aim to maintain supply during periods of high demand and mitigate price fluctuations.

Its network of over 800 points of sale is a key foundation for Saigon Co.op to serve peak consumer periods. The system comprises various models, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, Co.op Smile, Finelife, and Cheers, serving approximately one million customers daily and boasting about 4 million member customers.

In addition to its direct retail network, Saigon Co.op is actively promoting a multi-channel retail model. As per its financial plan for the 2026–2027 period, the system aims for revenue growth exceeding 10% year-on-year, driven by network expansion, improved business efficiency at each point of sale, and the development of online sales channels.

E-commerce is also targeted for approximately 30% growth compared to the same period. Alongside this, the company is focusing on optimizing operating costs, enhancing supply chain efficiency, restructuring its merchandise portfolio, and developing private-label brands.

The combination of its extensive network of points of sale, diverse product sourcing, large member customer base, and online channels is a strategic direction for Saigon Co.op in the coming period, as consumer purchasing behaviors become increasingly varied.

Building on the national day shopping season, Saigon Co.op expects to maintain purchasing power through the end of the year, working towards its target of over 10% revenue growth in 2026. It also continues to expand market access for Vietnamese goods through its domestic distribution system.
