SHB among top 10 outstanding enterprises in green energy and environment

SHB honored as one of the top 10 outstanding enterprises in sustainable green energy and environment at the "World Energy and Environment - Vietnam 2026" forum organized by VCCI.

According to the organizing committee, the award recognizes Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank's (SHB) efforts in integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into its business operations. This includes developing green credit and mobilizing capital for sustainable projects, contributing to Vietnam's net zero emissions goal.

In recent years, SHB has steadily incorporated ESG factors into its credit activities. The bank prioritizes capital for sectors such as renewable energy, clean production, and green agriculture.

Projects financed by the bank include the Hanh Phuc Rice Mill in An Giang, the Yang Trung Wind Power Plant in Gia Lai, and numerous other wind power, hydropower, manufacturing, and agricultural projects nationwide. The bank stated that expanding its green credit portfolio channels capital into areas aligned with Vietnam's green growth strategy and net zero target. Currently, SHB is among the leading private banks in terms of green credit ratio within its total outstanding loans.

Additionally, the bank has expanded capital mobilization based on ESG criteria in the international market. In 2025, SHB successfully raised two medium-term USD syndicated loans totaling 600 million USD. The registered volume from participating institutions exceeded the initial offering limit, allowing the bank to exercise its greenshoe option to optimize its capital structure and meet the financing needs of green projects.

The series of transactions attracted a total of 26 international financial institutions, with five co-arrangers and guarantors: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), CTBC Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI).

According to SHB, this capital enhances the bank's ability to finance businesses and projects aligned with green growth. Previously, the bank also partnered with organizations like the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to deploy capital for renewable energy, small and medium-sized enterprises, women-led businesses, and other sectors.

Throughout its journey of over three decades, SHB has remained committed to sustainable, safe, and efficient development. The bank dedicated resources early on to research and operate according to ESG standards, "greening" its internal operations. SHB implements measures to reduce energy and resource consumption at its branches and transaction offices, such as using renewable energy, conserving electricity and water, and minimizing waste. The bank also promotes digital transformation to reduce paper and resource usage, applying electronic management systems for internal operations.

SHB's efforts have been recognized by many reputable domestic and international organizations with awards such as: Top 10 Outstanding Comprehensive ESG Implementing Enterprises (Vietnam ESG Awards); Most Positive ESG Impact Bank in Vietnam (Finance Asia); Best Sustainable Finance Bank (Global Finance); and Exemplary ESG Program in Vietnam (The Asian Banking and Finance).

Entering a new growth phase, SHB aims to develop its customer ecosystem and accelerate technology application, with the goal of becoming a "new generation national stature bank." Based on technology, SHB applies "5 First": Data & AI First, People First, Cloud First, Security First, and Mobile First, creating a foundation for building a modern, secure, and flexible digital bank.

SHB targets to become the top 1 bank in efficiency by 2030, a preferred digital bank, the best retail bank, and a top bank providing capital, financial products, and services to strategic corporate clients with ecosystems, supply chains, value chains, and green development; small and medium-sized enterprises; and individual customers. By 2035, SHB strives to be a leading green, digital, and modern bank in the region.

To achieve this goal, SHB continues to implement a comprehensive transformation strategy based on four pillars: customer and market centricity; reform of mechanisms, policies, regulations, and processes; people as the core; and information technology modernization and digital transformation, guided by six core values: Tam - Tin - Tin - Tri - Tri - Tam.

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) is a national organization representing the business community, entrepreneurs, employers, and business associations in Vietnam.

The "World Energy and Environment - Vietnam 2026" forum was organized by VCCI in collaboration with the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) and the World Energy Council in Vietnam. With the theme "Vietnam concretizes the path to Net Zero," the forum aims to foster dialogue on energy transition, emissions reduction, and the implementation of sustainable development commitments.
