Skanska has commenced construction on a new cargo facility at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to modernize the airport's infrastructure and meet growing freight forwarding demands.
The project encompasses an approximately 9,200 square meter cargo building, an approximately 2,400 square meter mezzanine office space, and an approximately 1,600 square meter ground service equipment (GSE) maintenance building. The design can simultaneously serve up to 30 trucks, improving traffic flow and increasing operational efficiency for cargo operators.

"We are proud to partner with SFO on this important redevelopment project", stated Gordon Childress, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Skanska USA Building in California, USA. "This project marks a significant step in modernizing SFO's infrastructure, delivering substantial benefits to airlines, cargo operators, and passengers".
The project supports San Francisco's sustainability goals by incorporating solar panels, battery storage systems, and electric vehicle (EV) compatible infrastructure for future tenants. The design also emphasizes natural light and sustainable materials to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact.
Additionally, the project promotes local business enterprise (LBE) participation, implements workforce development programs, and integrates public art as part of the airport's "Arts and Culture Program".
"Through close collaboration among all parties, we are committed to delivering an efficient, sustainable operational space that aligns with the airport's complex ecosystem", Childress added. "Skanska consistently prioritizes innovative solutions to ensure maximum efficiency and environmental friendliness for its constructions".
The project is expected to be completed in early 2028.
