T&T tops out air traffic control tower at Quang Tri Airport

The air traffic control tower at Quang Tri Airport has completed its structural phase, moving into the finishing and specialized equipment installation stage.

On july 22, an investor consortium, comprising T&T Traffic Infrastructure Investment and Development Co., Ltd. and Cienco4 Group Joint Stock Company, along with Quang Tri Airport Co., Ltd., celebrated the structural completion of the air traffic control tower at the Quang Tri Airport project. Once operational, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) in Quang Tri will manage and operate the facility.

The air traffic control tower will manage flights and ensure safety. The 11-story structure, including a rooftop, reaches a peak floor height of 44.34 meters and an overall height of 51.73 meters. This design meets the requirements for observation, flight control, and the installation of specialized air traffic control equipment. Its construction demanded high standards in structural integrity, architectural design, and engineering.

With the structural work complete, the project now progresses to architectural finishing and the installation of specialized equipment systems. The investor emphasized that resources were prioritized from the outset to ensure timely project completion. This accelerated progress on key components, including the air traffic control tower, lays the groundwork for subsequent construction phases before the airport's operational launch.

Concurrent progress is also being made across other airport sections. At the passenger terminal, main structural components are largely complete. Interior and exterior plastering, roof steel structure installation, and other auxiliary and technical infrastructure works are progressing concurrently.

The runway in the airfield area is complete. Work on the taxiway and airfield drainage system, including organic stripping, sludge dredging, foundation excavation, and compaction, has also met technical specifications.

Quang Tri Airport, developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, began construction in 7/2024. The project aims to upgrade the airport from a 4C to a 4E classification, enabling it to handle wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. The investor anticipates that the airport will improve regional connectivity and reduce travel times once operational.

Quang Tri province features an extensive coastline and diverse tourism resources, including beaches, islands, ecological sites, and historical heritage. In the first 6 months of the year, the province attracted over 5.64 million visitors, marking a 15.63% increase year-on-year. Tourism revenue for this period is estimated at 6,486 billion VND. The new airport is expected to further boost these figures.
