These projects are part of Hanoi's 18-line urban railway network, which spans approximately 979 km. The five newly launched lines alone total about 303,5 km. They are designed to follow the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model, integrating public transport with urban development along the railway corridors.

The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board is the investor for these projects. The consortium comprising Vinhomes Joint Stock Company and VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, both part of Vingroup, will serve as the EPC general contractor for the following lines:
Line 1: Thuong Tin - Tam Hung - Thuong Phuc - Dan Hoa - Railway Industrial Park - Ngoc Hoi - Hanoi Station - Yen Vien - Thu Lam Multi-purpose Urban Area - Noi Bai Airport;
Line 2: Noi Bai Airport - Tran Hung Dao - Thuong Dinh - Thuong Tin - Tam Hung - Thuong Phuc - Dan Hoa;
Line 8: Hoa Lac - Son Dong - Mai Dich - Ring Road 3 - Linh Nam - Duong Xa;
Line 10: Dong Anh - Vo Chi Cong - Ring Road 3 - Ring Road 2,5 - Times City - Dong Anh;
Line 14: Thang Long Bridge - Hong Ha - Gia Lam.
A representative from the Vinhomes - VinSpeed consortium stated, "The groundbreaking of these five new urban railway projects is expected to contribute to completing Hanoi's public transport infrastructure, expanding urban development, and enhancing connectivity across the capital."
In preparation for implementation, the general contractor consortium conducted preliminary surveys of the routes and engaged with equipment suppliers. They ordered tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and diaphragm wall excavators, added over 200 bored pile construction lines, and increased vehicles for excavated soil and drilling mud transport.
The Vinhomes - VinSpeed consortium also collaborated with consulting firms from Europe, Japan, Korea, and China to develop detailed designs. Contractors experienced in TBM tunnel construction, supplying machinery, equipment, train sets, operating systems, control, and railway safety solutions were mobilized for the next phase.

Vinhomes is a real estate developer with a track record of large-scale urban projects. VinSpeed is currently the investor for Vietnam's first two high-speed railway projects: the 54 km Ben Thanh - Can Gio line in TP HCM and the 120 km Hanoi - Quang Ninh line, designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
Both lines will use European train sets and system technology. Specifically, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio project's underground section from Ben Thanh Station to the Salt Port area will use large-diameter TBM tunnel technology, up to 13,6 m. Herrenknecht (Germany), a reputable manufacturer of mechanized tunnel boring machines, is responsible for designing and producing the TBM equipment. Siemens (Germany) is designing and manufacturing the train sets.
