Tay Ninh breaks ground on solar power plant exceeding 7,700 billion VND

The 562,5 MWp Dau Tieng 5 solar power plant, a 7,774 billion VND project, recently broke ground in Duong Minh Chau commune, expected to supply approximately 808 million kWh of clean electricity annually.

The project is being developed on approximately 645 hectares of semi-submerged land in Dau Tieng lake, an area with favorable solar radiation for photovoltaic power development. DT5.1 Energy Joint Stock Company, a member company of Xuan Cau Holdings, is the investor. Commercial operation is anticipated by 12/2027.

A key feature of the Dau Tieng 5 plant is its pioneering adoption of the direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) mechanism. According to To Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Xuan Cau Holdings, this method offers more options for power generators and large electricity consumers, fostering a competitive electricity market. The company also expects the project to meet the green electricity demands of foreign direct investment (FDI) investors.

The plant will feature an integrated system of high-efficiency photovoltaic panels, distributed inverters, a battery energy storage system (BESS), a 220 kV substation, and transmission lines connected to the national grid. This setup aims to enhance operational efficiency and optimize power output.

Representing the general contractor consortium, Zhou Jiayi, Chairman of PowerChina's Asia-Pacific Regional Headquarters, stated that the company will focus on ensuring project progress, construction quality, and compliance with health, safety, and environment (HSE) requirements.

"Dau Tieng Lake has a valuable aquatic environment and ecosystem," he said. "Therefore, we will minimize the impact of construction activities, ensuring harmony between project development and environmental protection."

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Le Van Han, Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee, noted that Dau Tieng 5 is the largest capacity solar power project in the province to date. Upon completion, the facility will not only add clean electricity to the national grid but also effectively utilize the semi-submerged area of Dau Tieng lake, creating jobs, increasing budget revenue, and boosting related economic sectors.

Tay Ninh possesses significant potential for solar energy development due to favorable radiation conditions. Xuan Cau Holdings began investing in renewable energy in the province in 2018 with the Dau Tieng 1, 2, and 3 solar power plant cluster, totaling 500 MW. This cluster, spanning approximately 720 hectares, was completed after about 10 months of construction and was the largest solar power plant complex in Southeast Asia at the time of its operation.
