The UK–Vietnam Offshore Wind Accelerator Partnership was jointly announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the British Embassy on June 16, in Hanoi.
The program aims to support Vietnam in three priority areas: enhancing capacity for government agencies and the industry; sharing international experience, leveraging UK expertise; and providing technical assistance.
For instance, the initiative will help establish the necessary frameworks to foster early-stage project development, improve the ability to mobilize project finance, and create systems for integrating offshore wind power into Vietnam's national grid.

The UK recognizes Vietnam's favorable position to become a regional leader in offshore wind power. With its extensive coastline, abundant wind resources, and rapidly growing electricity demand driven by economic expansion, Vietnam holds significant potential to expand its clean energy sources and strengthen long-term energy security.
Building on an installed wind power capacity of over 6 GW, the revised Power Development Plan VIII targets developing 17,032 MW of offshore wind power by 2035.
"The UK and Vietnam are transforming shared ambitions into practical action – laying the groundwork for a thriving offshore wind industry and a sustainable energy future," said Alex Strugnell, Deputy British Ambassador to Vietnam.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long, this partnership will contribute significantly to realizing Vietnam's offshore wind power potential, opening opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation in clean energy.
On the same day, the UK also launched the Green Finance Mechanism under the "UK PACT" (UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) program. This technical support package aims to strengthen Vietnam's green finance ecosystem, facilitating better access to international capital and promoting the development of robust market solutions aligned with Net Zero targets.
The mechanism will support the Vietnam International Finance Center in developing legal frameworks that align with international standards, integrating green and sustainable finance from the initial stages.
