Verdion develops one billion euro logistics hub

European logistics real estate specialist Verdion has announced plans to build iPort Zealand, a 570,000 square meter logistics hub.

iPort Zealand, a vast 250-hectare logistics hub, is strategically located in Ringsted, Denmark, 60 km west of Copenhagen. This prime location sits at the intersection of Denmark's main east-west and north-south railway corridors, directly bordering the E20 highway. This highway provides critical links from western Denmark through Copenhagen to Malmö and Stockholm.

Verdion plans to expand iPort Zealand with dedicated areas for logistics, advanced manufacturing, light industry, and other business operations, including high-tech and pharmaceutical sectors.

The project anticipates significant benefits from the completion of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, the world's longest combined road and rail tunnel. This vital link will connect Germany and Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) via new high-speed road and rail networks. It will cut travel times between Hamburg, Germany, and Copenhagen, Denmark, by two hours for rail and approximately 70 minutes for road journeys.

The new iPort Zealand logistics hub spans 570,000 square meters.

The hub is designed to operate 7 days a week, accommodating at least 12 long freight trains daily. Each train effectively replaces about 60 long-haul trucks, significantly reducing road traffic congestion.

All buildings within the project will adhere to high sustainability standards, emphasizing energy and resource efficiency, and will receive independent certification from a reputable international body. Verdion is collaborating with local and national stakeholders to finalize detailed designs, ensuring the new commercial zone opens in conjunction with the tunnel's inauguration.

Michael Hughes, chief executive officer of Verdion, highlighted iPort Zealand's strategic advantage, positioning it as a new business hub for Denmark. He noted that the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will profoundly impact Northern Europe and Germany, creating new supply chain routes and extensive business opportunities across all sectors.

"It is crucial for Denmark to be prepared to capture this wave of growth, encompassing jobs, services, and public revenue. This new commercial center will drive regional development, translating infrastructure enhancements into tangible economic benefits for both local communities and the nation, including improved connectivity to major regional ports," Hughes stated.

Verdion stands as a prominent European logistics real estate developer and manager, specializing in large-scale logistics hubs, modern industrial parks, and integrated warehousing solutions. The company is recognized for its commitment to high sustainability standards, innovation, and optimizing supply chains for clients throughout the region.
