OAG, an aviation data and analytics provider, recently released its Megahubs 2026 ranking of the 50 most connected airports globally. For its 11th annual publication, OAG analyzed flights at the 100 largest airports worldwide from 9/2025 to 8/2026. Data was extracted on 2/8, identified as the busiest day for global aviation during that period, to determine the top 50.

Vietnam's two major international airports, Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai, secured spots in this prestigious list. Tan Son Nhat, located in TP HCM, ranked 48th, a drop of three positions from last year. It offers 8,441 valid connecting flight options, linking to 100 destinations worldwide.

Noi Bai Airport, serving Hanoi, saw a significant rise of eight spots from last year, entering the top 50 best-connected airports globally at 49th. OAG calculated that Noi Bai provides 8,679 valid connecting flight options, connecting 105 locations. However, Noi Bai ranks behind Tan Son Nhat because it only offers 22,5 million seats, 4,8 million fewer than the 27,3 million seats provided by the airport in TP HCM.

Vietnam Airlines holds the largest market share at both airports, with 37% at Noi Bai and 35% at Tan Son Nhat. Additionally, both Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat were recognized among the top 25 airports best connected for low-cost carriers (LCCs). Tan Son Nhat secured the 19th position, while Noi Bai was 22nd.

Low-cost airlines account for 37% of operational capacity at Tan Son Nhat and 35% at Noi Bai. According to OAG, Vietjet is the dominant low-cost airline at these two hubs, holding a 30-31% market share.

Globally, Istanbul Airport in Turkey claimed the top spot as the world's best-connected airport this year, surpassing London Heathrow (UK). Istanbul offers flights to 337 global destinations and was also ranked as the 8th busiest airport worldwide for the 8/2025-8/2026 period.

After three consecutive years as the top 1 Megahub, London Heathrow dropped to second place. The airport's valid connecting flight options decreased by 6% compared to the same period last year, totaling 89,456. Prolonged disruptions to flights to and from the Middle East impacted London Heathrow's connectivity.
