HCMUE's graduation week, honoring 3,528 new graduates from the 47th class, commenced on 11/7.
This year, 315 students graduated with excellent honors, accounting for 9% of the class, a 0.5% decrease compared to last year. Approximately 37% of students achieved good honors, also a decrease of 4.1%. The percentage of graduates receiving average honors increased from 49.4% to 54%.
Professor Huynh Van Son, the university's president, noted that this is a unique graduating class. When they began their studies in 2021, these students did not have a proper orientation due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. They then adapted to online learning, a new environment, and higher education learning methods. Despite these challenges, Son commended the class for having many students graduating on time or even earlier than the previous class.
HCMUE's 46% rate of graduates with excellent and good honors is higher than some universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Hanoi Medical University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (where excellent and good honors range from 10% to 30%). However, it's lower than the National Economics University and the Foreign Trade University (76% to 80%).
Addressing the new graduates, Son mentioned the newly passed Law on Teachers, which establishes an independent legal status for the teaching profession. This creates new expectations for teacher development policies and elevates the mission of teachers in modern society.
Concurrently, the national network plan for higher education and teacher training institutions from 2021 to 2030, with a vision to 2050, has identified HCMUE as one of the key teacher training universities in the country.
The HCMUE president encouraged graduates to maintain compassion and ideals as they embark on their new journeys. He emphasized that in any profession, empathy and a people-centered approach are essential for building lasting connections and spreading positive values. Knowledge and skills may yield short-term results, but only ideals can provide steadfastness, strength, and a meaningful life.
Life's ideals don't need to be lofty. Sometimes, it's simply remembering to act with kindness, live a purposeful life, and never give up on what one believes is right.
"Compassion and ideals are the pillars that enable individuals not only to live well for themselves but also to positively impact the community. These two qualities will help you preserve your inherent goodness and inner consistency—something more valuable than any degree," said Professor Son.
