Dozens of wrongly rejected applicants accepted by universities

Three universities have accepted around 25 applicants wrongly rejected from all their choices due to a "false admission" glitch at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Another university is considering admitting 30 more.

Many university applicants reported not meeting the admission requirements for Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, yet the university's system listed them as accepted. According to Ministry of Education and Training regulations, applicants can only be accepted into one program. This resulted in these applicants being rejected from their other choices, even though they met the entry requirements.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education attributed this to a technical error. During their review, the university found many applicants who did not meet the requirements were listed as accepted, and vice-versa. To protect the applicants' interests, the university proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training allow these applicants to be considered for their other choices. Simultaneously, the university contacted the institutions where these applicants had applied to find solutions.

"We will continue to coordinate with other institutions to ensure a satisfactory resolution for the affected applicants," the university stated on the afternoon of 26/8.

Ho Chi Minh City Open University announced this afternoon that it has accepted 18 applicants transferred from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education into programs such as psychology, Korean language, and law.

These students were able to complete their online enrollment procedures at the university starting on the afternoon of 26/8 without needing confirmation from the Ministry's system.

Another university in Ho Chi Minh City that offers education programs also received a list of about 30 affected applicants. However, the university stated it needs to review the situation. Accepting all these applicants would exceed the quota for several programs. Students in these programs receive tuition waivers and a monthly living allowance of 3.6 million VND.

Two other universities specializing in economics and engineering have accepted about 7 applicants.

"The university has contacted these students to inform them about the early enrollment procedures," an admissions officer said.

Over the past two days, numerous applicants have reported errors in the application process at universities such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and Foreign Trade University.

On the afternoon of 26/8, the Ministry stated it receives about 20-30 inquiries daily. The errors primarily involve input data (application methods, requirements, selection criteria, proof of applicant priority, and English language certificates). Some errors are due to manual processing during the selection process.

"To date, most errors have been resolved according to regulations," the Ministry reported. "All eligible applicants will certainly be notified of their acceptance in time to enroll within the deadline."
