The "Education Dialogue" vodcast, produced by VnExpress in collaboration with the British Council, comprises seven episodes featuring education leaders, experts, and lecturers from Vietnam and the United Kingdom, alongside alumni of UK universities. The program revolves around key themes such as higher education cooperation, quality assurance, the role of communities of practice, skill development, and overseas study, offering diverse perspectives on the integration process.
Each episode approaches a different topic but collectively addresses a central question: How can Vietnamese education effectively connect with global knowledge while creating practical value for domestic development?
"If education integration is a large canvas, the seven episodes are like pieces of a puzzle, reflecting many different facets of this process," a British Council representative stated.
International cooperation linked to university autonomy
One recurring theme throughout the vodcast series is the role of international cooperation in the reform and integration of Vietnamese higher education.
According to experts participating in the program, cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom extends beyond joint training programs or student exchanges. The scope of collaboration has broadened to areas like university governance, quality accreditation, scientific research, innovation, and industry connections.
Drawing from the experience of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, speakers highlighted how accessing governance expertise from UK universities has supported Vietnamese educational institutions in achieving university autonomy. Modern governance models, performance evaluation systems, and methods for linking research with practical needs are providing further impetus for reform.

Significantly, international models are not adopted through direct replication. Instead, many cooperation programs are adapted to suit the specific conditions, needs, and development goals of each educational institution in Vietnam.
This spirit also permeates discussions on quality assurance, skill development, and scientific research. Experts consistently emphasize that integration does not mean importing foreign models wholesale, but rather a process of selection, assimilation, and transformation into solutions appropriate for the domestic context.
The series also reveals the growing role of international academic networks, alumni communities, experts, and mentors in disseminating knowledge. These are seen as bridges that convert international experience into research projects, educational initiatives, or community development models in Vietnam.
In the episode "When Knowledge Returns", guests discussed the increasing trend of overseas students choosing to return to Vietnam after studying abroad. Rather than viewing overseas study as a path to permanent residency, many young people now see it as an opportunity to accumulate knowledge, skills, and international experience before returning to contribute to their homeland.
Knowledge of environmental issues, sustainable development, digital transformation, data science, and innovation is brought back to address Vietnam's practical challenges. According to the speakers, this is also a clear manifestation of education integration in a new phase, where knowledge does not merely flow in one direction but creates a cyclical value between Vietnam and the world.

Links in the integration process
Beyond international cooperation, the vodcast series also highlights elements considered foundational to modern education integration.
In several episodes, speakers collectively referred to a group of competencies becoming common requirements for the 21st century, including critical thinking, digital skills, green skills, adaptability, and lifelong learning.
According to experts, in an era of rapid technological change, increasingly profound climate change impacts, and a constantly shifting labor market, the value of education extends beyond specialized knowledge. More important is the ability to help learners adapt to changes and proactively create opportunities for themselves.
This ethos is evident in episode seven, which focuses on skills for youth for a sustainable future. Through programs like Youth Connect and the Skills for Future project, young people acquire not only digital skills but also leadership skills, critical thinking, collaboration abilities, and an awareness of sustainable development.

The concept of integration is also viewed more broadly. It is not just about accessing international learning environments but also about the ability to participate in global discussions on climate change, technology, gender equality, and community development.
Vietnam prioritizes the development of technology and innovation, affirming the important role of STEM education. In this field, there has been a significant shift in the role of women in scientific research. While women previously participated mainly in some traditional sectors, increasingly more are pursuing artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and environmental technology.
Scholarship programs and international networks are valued not only for providing learning opportunities but also for nurturing talent, fostering supportive communities, and connecting research with long-term career development. These are also factors that promote equitable access in education and science.
Another link discussed in the series is study abroad consulting. With the expansion of information and technological advancements, the role of consultants is shifting from providing information to accompanying learners in choosing careers, building development pathways, and shaping future directions.

This reflects a change in the approach to international education. Overseas study is no longer merely choosing a destination but has become part of an individual's long-term competency development strategy.
A British Council representative stated that, through the discussed topics, the vodcast series demonstrates that education integration is no longer a formal "internationalization" story. The focus is shifting towards building internal capacity, human development, and establishing knowledge connections capable of creating sustainable value.
According to the British Council representative, the goal of the "Education Dialogue" series is not just to share experiences from the United Kingdom or introduce international cooperation models. It also aims to create a space for dialogue among stakeholders in the education ecosystem, transforming international cooperation into integration by enhancing the internal capacity of educational institutions and local human resources.
Through practical stories, the program seeks to suggest solutions for pressing issues such as improving higher education quality, developing high-quality human resources, promoting innovation, and building more equitable and inclusive learning opportunities.
The seven episodes have concluded, but the topics they raised continue to expand. From international cooperation, quality assurance, overseas study, STEM, to future skills, the vodcast series has shown that education is becoming one of the important foundations helping Vietnam participate more deeply in the global knowledge economy, while creating resources for sustainable future development.
