Fluctuations in the 10th grade entrance ratios at top Ho Chi Minh City schools

Most of the 16 high schools with the highest 10th grade benchmark scores last year have an entrance ratio of two or higher.

On 4/5, the Department of Education and Training announced the number of students applying for first-choice enrollment in general, integrated, and specialized classes.

The 16 top high schools, based on last year's 10th grade benchmark scores, are mostly within the top 30 schools with the highest entrance ratios in Ho Chi Minh City. Leading the list is Bui Thi Xuan High School with 2,84; followed by Tran Dai Nghia Middle-High School and Thu Duc High School, with 2,79 and 2,57 respectively.

Three schools with an entrance ratio below two are Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Nguyen Huu Cau High School, and Vo Truong Toan High School. These names are surprising, as their entrance ratio rankings dropped sharply, moving from last year's top 10 to outside the top 25.

Meanwhile, Bui Thi Xuan High School made a strong leap, climbing from 31st to the top position one. Thu Duc High School also rose to 3rd place from 10th. Tran Dai Nghia Middle-High School, however, lost its top spot, dropping to 2nd place.

Conversely, 45 schools have an entrance ratio below one, meaning the number of applications received is lower than the enrollment quota, making admission almost certain.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has over 169,000 middle school graduates. More than 17,800 of these students opted not to take the exam. The exam is scheduled for 1-2/6 and will cover three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language (primarily English). Students applying to specialized schools will take corresponding specialized subject exams. Separately, in Thanh An island commune, Con Dao special zone, schools admit 10th grade students based on academic records.
