Associate Professor Ha Le Kim Anh, vice president of the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said on 18/7 that these predictions are based on the score distribution of the 2025 high school graduation exams and the university's admission criteria.
Specifically, foreign language teaching majors may see a decrease of about 1.5 to 2 points compared to last year. Language majors (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture) are expected to drop 2 to 3 points.
The reason is that this year, the number of students taking the foreign language exam is only nearly 353,000, about one-third of previous years, as it is now an elective subject. The score distribution is also lower than in 2024, with only 141 students achieving a perfect 10, a four-fold decrease. The average score is 5.38, down 0.13 points.
Meanwhile, all 42 of the university's admission combinations include a foreign language subject, with 6 core combinations: D01 (math, literature, foreign language), D14 (literature, history, foreign language), D15 (literature, geography, foreign language), A01 (math, physics, foreign language), D07 (math, chemistry, foreign language), and B08 (math, biology, foreign language). Foreign language options in the high school graduation exam include English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean.
Ms. Kim Anh explained that in the admission score calculation, the foreign language score is multiplied by 2, as in previous years, then added to the other two subjects in the combination, and finally converted to a 30-point scale.
She predicted that the majors with the highest admission scores will be English language teaching and Chinese language teaching, ranging from 23 to 25 (excluding priority points and bonus points). Russian language, Arabic language, Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture are expected to have the lowest admission scores, around 19 to 22.
Admission scores for other methods, including the High School Assessment (HSA) test and academic transcripts, will also be converted to the 30-point scale, following the formula of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The university has not yet announced this formula.
Last year, English language teaching had the highest admission score – 38.45/40 (foreign language score multiplied by 2). Economics and Finance (international joint training program with a foreign degree) had the lowest admission score – 26.75.

In 2025, ULIS will admit 2,400 students, an increase of 400 compared to last year. The five admission methods are: direct admission according to the Ministry of Education and Training's regulations; high school graduation exam scores; a combination of foreign language certificates and high school graduation exam scores; HSA test scores; and a combination of certificates and academic transcripts (for students from high schools under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and specialized high school students nationwide).
Tuition fees at ULIS for the 2025 intake are expected to range from 16.9 to 65 million VND. The highest level applies to the joint Economics and Finance program, an increase of over 2.5 million VND due to exchange rate fluctuations.
Tuition fees for intercultural communication and Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture are the lowest.
Tuition fees for English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean language majors remain at 38 million VND per year. Tuition fees for Russian and Arabic language majors also remain unchanged at 21 million VND.
