The Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the adjusted 2026 new year's holiday schedule on the morning of 29/12/2025.
Schools that observe a fixed two-day weekend will be able to swap working days to create a four-day New Year's holiday, running from 1/1/2026 to 4/1/2026. This arrangement primarily applies to kindergartens and primary schools. The make-up day for 2/1/2026 will be rescheduled to 10/1/2026.
Schools that typically have classes on Saturday can independently arrange their holiday schedules, taking into account their specific curriculum and school plans.
The department stated that this change aligns with a government conclusion regarding the New Year's holiday schedule, which was issued last week.

For the Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan) holiday, Hanoi has confirmed a five-day break in line with general regulations, beginning from 16/2/2026 (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month) to 20/2/2026 (the 4th day of the 1st lunar month). With weekends falling directly before and after this period, students could potentially enjoy a maximum of nine days off if they do not have Saturday morning classes.
The department requires schools to arrange on-duty personnel to manage unexpected situations; and to intensify efforts to educate students on maintaining social order and complying with regulations concerning firework management and use.
Based on their actual conditions, schools are encouraged to prioritize the welfare of teachers, staff, and students; organize visits to policy families; and promote thrift and discourage waste during the Tet holiday period.
