The university will continue to offer its existing pedagogical majors, including English Language Education and Technology Education.
The government has assigned the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and related agencies to guide and supervise the renaming process. This is to prevent any losses, waste, or adverse effects on the university's operations and the rights of its lecturers and students.

The predecessor of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education was the Technical Pedagogy College Board, established in 1962. Ten years later, the institution was renamed Nguyen Truong To - Thu Duc Technical Pedagogy College Center and upgraded to Thu Duc University of Education in 1974.
In January 1976, the Prime Minister decided to establish Thu Duc University of Technology and Education based on this foundation. In 1984, the university merged with Thu Duc Industrial High School and was renamed Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.
Currently, the university has over 27,000 students, including postgraduate students, and approximately 700 lecturers. Its strength lies in training engineering and technology disciplines. In 2025, HCMUTE is projected to enter the group of universities with trillion-VND revenue for the first time, reaching 1,120 billion VND.
