According to the Department of Education and Training's announcement on 14/8, high schools need 671 teachers. The remaining positions are for preschool, primary school, and positions within ward and commune People's Committees.
The recruitment process consists of two rounds. In the first round, candidates are screened based on their applications. Those who pass this round will take a 30-minute practical exam to assess their knowledge and professional skills. The Department will rank candidates from highest to lowest score until all positions are filled, with a minimum passing score of 50/100. The examination fee is 300,000 VND per person.
The Department of Education and Training is accepting applications from now until 12/9. The practical exam is scheduled for 22-25/9, with results announced no later than 27/9.
The demand for teachers in Ho Chi Minh City is broken down by three regions:
Region | Preschool, Primary, Lower Secondary | High School |
Region 1 (former Ho Chi Minh City) | 3,098 | 460 |
Region 2 (former Binh Duong) | 1,990 | 157 |
Region 3 (former Ba Ria - Vung Tau) | 647 | 54 |
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in the 2024-2025 school year, the country had over 1.26 million teachers from preschool to grade 12. Based on current standards, there is a shortage of approximately 120,000 teachers.
This teacher shortage has persisted for many years in most provinces and cities, with Ho Chi Minh City among those experiencing the greatest need. However, some positions, such as IT and English teachers, sometimes receive no applications or have successful candidates who decline the job offer.
This year, for the first time, provincial Departments of Education and Training have been entrusted with the recruitment and assignment of teachers at all levels. This is expected to address local imbalances in teacher supply and demand. Previously, the Department only handled recruitment for high schools, while other levels were handled by district-level People's Committees (now commune level).
