Admission scores for the regular program are calculated based on the combined scores of literature, math, and foreign language, plus any bonus points. Students must take all three exams, adhere to exam regulations, and not receive a failing score (0) in any subject.
Student preferences are considered in order. Based on each school's quota, the Department considers applications from highest to lowest score until all places are filled. The admission score for a student's subsequent choice cannot be lower than that of their prior choice.
Admission scores for specialized programs are the sum of the three general subject scores (multiplied by a factor of 1) plus the specialized subject score (multiplied by a factor of 2), with all scores needing to be at least 2.
Fluctuations in Ho Chi Minh City's 10th-grade admission scores over the past three years.
Over 76,000 students took the 10th-grade entrance exam this year, compared to over 98,000 last year.
With fewer applicants and public schools offering approximately 70,000 places, the acceptance rate is over 91%. Therefore, many teachers predict that regular program admission scores may decrease slightly or remain the same.
For the past three years, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has consistently had the highest admission scores, at 24 or above. Schools typically within the top 10, such as Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Gia Dinh High School, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Phu Nhuan High School, Mac Dinh Chi High School, Le Quy Don High School, and Nguyen Huu Cau High School, often have admission scores above 22.
