Ho Chi Minh City University of Science lowers admission scores

A week after announcing its initial threshold, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science (HUS) has lowered the minimum scores for admission across numerous programs utilizing the National University of Ho Chi Minh City’s competency assessment test.

According to a July 24 announcement, the Microchip Design program now requires a competency assessment score of 765/1200. The previous requirement was 850.

Several other programs have reduced their minimum scores by 50 points, from 600 to 550. These include Geological Engineering, Materials Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Oceanography, and Geology.

For high school graduation exam-based admissions, HUS has removed the requirement of a minimum math score of 8 for Semiconductor Technology and Microchip Design programs. Instead, applicants must meet three criteria: their exam combination includes math and one of physics, chemistry, or computer science; they are in the top 20% nationally for math scores; and they are in the top 25% nationally based on their highest total exam score combination.

This adjustment aligns with the Ministry of Education and Training’s changes on July 22.

The adjusted competency assessment minimum scores for HUS in 2025 are as follows:
