Ho Chi Minh City ward reduces public schools by nearly 70%

Nhieu Loc ward, spanning 1,71 square kilometers, has consolidated 15 schools into five, achieving a 66,67% reduction, the highest rate in Ho Chi Minh City.

The ceremony to announce the decision on school establishment and personnel arrangements following the restructuring in Nhieu Loc ward took place on saturday morning, 26/8.

Previously, authorities observed that the area had numerous small-scale schools, with significant disparities in student numbers among schools at the same educational level. Some schools could only meet 60-70% of their enrollment targets. The existence of 15 schools within an area of 1,71 square kilometers resulted in excessive density.

Consequently, the locality reorganized them into five large-scale schools, each comprising three former facilities at the same educational level. This decision was based on 4 criteria: school and class size; educational access and geographical location; efficiency in managing and utilizing resources; and governance effectiveness.

Alongside Phuoc Thanh commune, Nhieu Loc has the highest reduction rate of public school entities in Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM) – reaching 66,67%.

Ms. Vu To Uyen, Deputy Standing Secretary of the Ward Party Committee, noted that this restructuring provides a foundation for organizing educational activities in a more synchronized way, suitable for the area's scale and characteristics. She urged the schools to quickly stabilize, unify, adopt a student-centered approach, and continuously improve quality.

List of schools and principals after mergers in Nhieu Loc ward

Nationwide, the public school network is being restructured with the goal of reducing at least 30% of entities, aiming to establish large-scale educational institutions and enhance educational quality. Provinces and cities anticipate approximately 20,000 principals and vice principals will be redundant, with 11,000 of them transitioning to teaching roles.

TP HCM alone expects to reduce about 630 entities, affecting over 3,100 principals, vice principals, and staff.
