Many universities grant students 8-9 day holidays

Many universities have adjusted their schedules or shifted to online learning for two to three days, allowing students to enjoy continuous 8-9 day breaks during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and 30/4-1/5 holidays.

By 3/4, many universities had announced their holiday schedules for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the 30/4-1/5 period.

According to the general schedule, employees receive three days off for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, from 25-27/4. The 27/4 is a compensatory day off because the main holiday falls on a Sunday. The 30/4-1/5 holiday period extends to four days, ending on 3/5, as it connects with the weekly days off. Institutions that typically work on Saturdays will have two fewer days off than this schedule.

The two holiday periods are separated by two regular working days, 28-29/4. To provide faculty and students with a continuous long break, universities such as the University of Commerce, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi University of Culture, and Banking Academy will organize online classes on these two days. This arrangement allows all students to stay home for 9 consecutive days, from 25/4 to 3/5, a duration comparable to the Lunar New Year holiday.

In contrast, other universities, including Hanoi University of Industry, National Economics University, Thuy Loi University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Nguyen Tat Thanh University, are granting students 8 continuous days off, from 26/4 to 3/5.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Trade University, the University of Economics and Law and University of Natural Sciences under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry and Trade are giving students holidays until 1/5, which is six days. However, if students do not have classes on Saturdays (25/4 and 2/5), their break could also extend to 9 days.

To ensure the academic program progresses, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry and Trade will organize make-up classes on Saturdays in the two weeks following the holiday. Some institutions, like Thang Long University, stated they would not hold online classes or make-up sessions, as these considerations were already factored into their annual academic plan.

The holiday schedule for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and 30/4-1/5 for over 20 universities is as follows:

Pham Thai Son, Director of the Center for Admissions and Communications at Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry and Trade, explained that adjusting the two regular working days into a longer holiday provides faculty and students with rest, boosts mental well-being, and enhances long-term productivity.

"Approximately 50% of the university's students come from provinces outside Ho Chi Minh City, and a long holiday makes it convenient for them to return home," he stated.

Some universities, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, did not alter their schedules, maintaining two separate holiday periods.
