Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) announced this information on the afternoon of 5/12. Specifically, for 2025, the university's total enrollment target is over 25,700 students. Among these, nearly 14,500 students were admitted through the competency assessment method, known as the V-ACT exam.
In 2018, the inaugural year of the V-ACT exam, only over 1,100 candidates, representing less than 7% of the total new students, were admitted using this method. Compared to last year, the proportion of students admitted to the university via this method also increased by over 18%.
The VNU-HCM competency assessment exam is the largest examination organized by universities in Vietnam. In 2025, approximately 152,800 candidates participated, with over 223,000 test attempts recorded. The results are utilized by more than 110 universities for admission consideration.
The average score for the 2025 V-ACT exam was 662.78. The top scorer achieved 1122 out of 1200 points, while the lowest score recorded was 120 points. Among the eight member universities, the highest admission cut-off score based on V-ACT results was 1098, for the artificial intelligence program at the University of Information Technology (UIT).
In addition to V-ACT scores, VNU-HCM's main admission methods include: direct admission, priority admission, and consideration of high school graduation exam scores. Specifically, the University of Technology employs a combined assessment of academic records, competency assessment scores, high school graduation exam results, and other achievements.
Tuition fees for the standard programs at these universities range from 16.6 to 70 million VND per year.
In 2026, VNU-HCM will organize two rounds of competency assessment exams: one in early April and another in late May. Candidates can begin registration from late January 2026.
