Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Khoi, Head of Admissions at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the number of applicants using foreign language certificates and SAT scores for admission has consistently risen over recent years.
In 2024, 1,367 students met the criteria for foreign language certificates and SAT scores for combined admission with high school graduation exam scores. This figure rose to over 1,700 last year, and nearly 2,300 for the 2026 admissions season.
This year, instead of a combined admission method, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City is awarding bonus points to applicants with an IELTS score of 6,0, a TOEFL iBT score of 80, or an SAT score of 1340/1600 or higher. Students can receive a maximum of 1,5 bonus points, which is fundamentally similar to the previous method. Specifically:
Bonus points = Bonus points (foreign language certificate) + Bonus points (SAT results)
| Certificate type | Bonus point calculation formula |
| IELTS | 0,9 x IELTS score/9 |
| TOEFL | 0,9 x TOEFL score/120 |
| SAT | 0,9 x SAT score/1,600 |
Among the nearly 2,300 eligible applicants, approximately 330 students held both IELTS and SAT scores. Most of them received the maximum 1,5 bonus points. The group with only foreign language certificates received 0,6-0,85 bonus points.
A notable applicant is Nguyen Minh Quan, who achieved an IELTS score of 8,5 and an SAT score of 1590/1600. According to the formula, Quan would have received 0,85 and 0,89 points respectively, but regulations cap the total bonus points at 1,5.
This year, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City is admitting over 2,700 students based on their 2026 high school graduation exam scores, with 20 students gaining direct admission.
This outlines the admission formula and bonus point structure at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City.
Tuition fees at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 academic year are projected to be around 30-90 million VND, with dentistry having the highest fees.
Last year, the university's benchmark scores ranged from 17 to 27,3, with medicine being the highest. All programs saw a decrease in benchmark scores, ranging from 0,4 to nearly 5 points, compared to the previous year.
