On 16/7, the Ministry of Education and Training released the 2025 high school graduation exam scores for over 1.1 million students. Each student took four subjects: the compulsory math and literature, along with two elective subjects. The national average score was 6.17.
Among the 34 newly established provinces and cities, Nghe An ranked first with an average score of 6.589, followed by Ha Tinh with 6.525. These two provinces, which have not undergone mergers, had approximately 39,000 and 17,000 students taking the exam, respectively.
The remaining positions in the top 10 were held by Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hue, all with average scores of 6.2 or higher.
Hanoi secured a spot in the top 5 with an average score close to 6.5, a significant improvement from its 12th-20th place ranking in previous years. Several other localities maintained their strong performance despite undergoing mergers, including Phu Tho (comprising Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, and Vinh Phuc), Ninh Binh (Ninh Binh, Ha Nam, and Nam Dinh), and Hai Phong (Hai Phong and Hai Duong).
Son La had the lowest average score, below 5.5. Ranking above Son La were Cao Bang, Lai Chau, Dak Lak, Dien Bien, Lang Son, and Tuyen Quang, with average scores between 5.5 and 5.7.

The high school graduation exam took place on 26-27/6 with over 1.16 million participants. Nearly 1.14 million students took the exam under the new (2018) general education program, and over 26,700 followed the old (2006) program.
Students under the new program took the compulsory literature and math exams, along with two elective subjects chosen from: chemistry, physics, biology, history, geography, economics and law, computer science, agricultural technology, industrial technology, and foreign languages (7 languages). After receiving their scores, students have 10 days to submit a request for re-marking, with the deadline being 25/7. Students will receive their official score certificates, provisional graduation certificates, and high school transcripts no later than 22/7.
The registration, adjustment, and supplementation period for university admissions is from 16/7 to 17:00 on 28/7, with no limit on the number of adjustments. Students can pay their online application fees from 29/7 to 17:00 on 5/8.
Before applying, students can visit VnExpress's University Search page to view the fluctuation of admission scores over the years by major, university, or tuition fees. The system also suggests majors and universities from last year with admission scores close to the student's current score for each subject combination.
University admission scores for 2025 will be announced before 17:00 on 22/8.
