Public school students to begin earliest from 22/8

Public schools are set to welcome students earliest on 22/8 for grades one, 9, and 12, with other grades following a week later.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the framework plan for the 2026-2027 academic year on 7/8. Accordingly, the opening ceremony will still be held on 5/9, as is customary.

Schools will organize the earliest start one week before the opening ceremony, specifically on 29/8. However, for grades one, 9, and 12, the start date can be two weeks earlier, from 22/8.

Semester one is scheduled to conclude before 18/1/2027, and semester two before 31/5/2027.

Schools must complete the recognition of primary and junior high school program completion within one month thereafter. Enrollment for new students at the beginning of each level must be finalized by 31/7/2027 at the latest.

The 2027 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on 11-12/6/2027, similar to this year.

Based on the Ministry's framework, provinces and cities will proactively develop their academic year plans. However, these plans must ensure a total of 35 weeks (semester one with 18 weeks, semester two with 17) and adhere to official holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) regulations.

In cases of severe weather or natural disasters, localities can proactively allow students to take time off and arrange make-up lessons at appropriate times, ensuring academic progress and the study plan. These localities may start the academic year earlier and extend it by no more than 15 days compared to the Ministry's framework. In special circumstances, provinces and cities must report to the Ministry before implementation.
