The Hanoi National University of Medicine and Pharmacy held a graduation ceremony on 30/7 for nearly 350 students across 6 disciplines: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, medical laboratory technology, medical imaging technology, and nursing.
113 students (33%) graduated with honors or higher, including 8 who achieved the highest distinction of "excellent." One of these students was from the medicine program, 6 from dentistry, and the remaining student from medical imaging technology.
The university stated that this is the first time so many students have achieved the "excellent" distinction since the first class graduated in 2018 (when it was still the School of Medicine and Pharmacy under Hanoi National University). In 2023, only one out of 254 graduating students achieved this distinction, and in 2022, none did.
Professor Le Ngoc Thanh, the university's rector, recognized the students' achievements as significant, not only in terms of quantity but also in their perseverance through challenges.
"Throughout 2020-2022, these students had to adapt to prolonged online learning and a lack of practical training opportunities as hospitals were forced to limit student intake to focus on pandemic prevention," Thanh said.
Medical students graduating with "excellent" status are rare. For instance, at Hanoi Medical University last year, no students graduated with "excellent" status, and only 8.8% graduated with honors.

The Hanoi National University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in 2020, based on the former School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Currently, the university has over 3,000 students enrolled in 6 undergraduate programs, 10 master's programs in 12 specializations, and 13 residency programs.
The university has nearly 400 staff members, including over 280 faculty members. Many lecturers also work at major hospitals such as Bach Mai, Viet Duc, National Children's Hospital, and National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
At the undergraduate level, the university's admission scores are typically among the top 3 highest. Last year, the standard admission score based on the high school graduation exam results ranged from 24.49 to 27.15 out of 30.
The university stated that it continues to promote international integration, creating more exchange opportunities for lecturers and students. Today, the university honored two medical students selected for internships and studies at Paris-Saclay University at the end of August.
