The 2025 high school graduation exam took place on 26-27/6 with over 1.16 million students, an increase of nearly 100,000 compared to last year. The exam included students studying under both the 2018 and 2006 national education programs, with different numbers of exam subjects and different exam papers. Nearly 1.14 million students took the exam under the new 2018 program.
Students following the 2018 program took two compulsory subjects: math and literature. In addition, students chose two subjects from: chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history, economics and law, computer science, technology, and a foreign language (English, German, Russian, Japanese, French, Chinese, or Korean).
Except for the literature exam, which was essay-based, the remaining subjects were multiple-choice with three sections, instead of just one answer selection format as in previous years.
Last year, only 5% of students scored below average in literature. The two students who achieved perfect scores came from Dong Thap and Nam Dinh. The average score for over one million students was 7.23.

This afternoon, all students will take the math exam. Tomorrow, students following the old program will take the natural sciences and social sciences exams. Students following the new program will take two elective subjects (foreign language, chemistry, physics, biology, history, geography, economics and law, computer science, or technology).
The 2025 high school graduation exam scores will be announced on 16/7. Students will begin registering and adjusting their university application preferences from 16/7 to 28/7.
