The Ministry of Education and Training changed the high school graduation exam scoring formula in 2025. The new formula comprises exam scores (50%), the average grade of 10th, 11th, and 12th grades (50%), and bonus points.
The formula is as follows:

The average grade for each academic year is calculated as follows:

The average grade for 10th, 11th, and 12th grades is the average of all subjects graded numerically.
Bonus points from 0.25 to 0.5 are awarded to children of war invalids, veterans, People's Armed Forces heroes, Labor Heroes, ethnic minorities, and victims of Agent Orange. Students meeting multiple criteria receive the highest applicable bonus, not the sum of all bonuses.
Students receive 1 to 2 bonus points for winning prizes in provincial-level or higher academic competitions, practical experiments, arts, sports, and science and technology contests. Similar to bonus points, students only receive the bonus associated with the highest award won, even if they have won multiple awards.
Starting in 2025, the Ministry eliminated vocational certificate bonus points for all students and IT, foreign language, and vocational secondary diploma bonus points for continuing education students.
Students with a final score of 5 or higher are considered to have graduated from high school.
Students have 10 days after receiving their scores to submit an appeal, with the deadline being 25/7. Students will receive their exam results certificate, provisional graduation certificate, and high school transcript by 22/7.
The university application period, including registration, adjustments, and additions, is from 16/7 to 17:00 on 28/7, with no limit on the number of adjustments. The online application fee payment period is from 29/7 to 17:00 on 5/8.
Before applying, students can visit VnExpress's University Search page to review benchmark score fluctuations over the years by major and university, as well as tuition fees. The system also suggests majors and universities with benchmark scores close to the student's score in each subject combination from the previous year.
University benchmark scores for 2025 will be announced before 17:00 on 22/8.
