Two specialized high schools renamed after provincial merger

Bac Ninh and Bac Giang Specialized High Schools have been renamed Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, following the merger of the two provinces.

This change follows a decision by the People's Committee of Bac Ninh Province (comprising the former Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces) on 1/7.

Bac Ninh Specialized High School became Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 1, while Bac Giang Specialized High School was renamed Bac Giang Specialized High School No. 2. These are two of the 80 public high schools and vocational education centers under the management of the Department of Education and Training.

Following the provincial merger, several localities have two or three specialized high schools. Bac Ninh is the first province to rename these schools.

Bac Ninh Specialized High School was formerly known as Bac Ninh Gifted High School, a three-level institution from primary to high school, established in 1993. Bac Giang Specialized High School was founded in 1991, originally named Ha Bac Gifted High School.

In the past three years, both schools have excelled in identifying and nurturing gifted students, helping the former Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces achieve recognition in national, regional, and international competitions.

In the national gifted student competition from 2022-2024, Bac Ninh and Bac Giang consistently ranked among the top 10 provinces and cities with the most awards. Each province typically secured 4-11 out of approximately 90 first prizes annually.

Last year, out of 18 students nationwide who won prizes in international Olympiad competitions, five were from these two schools.

The National Assembly passed a resolution on the rearrangement of provincial administrative units on 12/6/2025, reducing the number of provinces and cities from 63 to 34.

Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces merged to form the new Bac Ninh Province, covering 4,718 km2 with a population of 3.6 million.
