The announcement was made on 14/8. Over 60% of the affected courses are in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building. The remaining courses are in the Business School, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Science, and interdisciplinary programs. Details are available on the university's website.
According to UTS, the pause is due to low enrollment. The pause will last until the end of the autumn 2026 semester and does not affect current students.
"Pausing new enrollments doesn't automatically mean a course will close," the university stated. UTS explained that this sometimes allows for curriculum updates to better meet student needs before reopening.

This decision comes as the university faces financial challenges. In April, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that UTS was considering cutting 400 jobs.
UTS is currently ranked in the top 100 globally and 9th in Australia, according to the 2026 QS World University Rankings. It has 51,000 students and over 4,000 staff. Tuition fees are approximately 40,000-50,000 AUD (over 680-853 million VND) per year.
Approximately 1,000 Vietnamese students are currently enrolled at UTS.
