Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City releases competency assessment score conversion table

Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) released a percentile conversion table comparing competency assessment scores and high school graduation exam scores for 4 exam combinations on the evening of 24/7.

According to VNU-HCM, most of the candidates who took the competency assessment test also have high school graduation exam scores in the 4 combinations: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), C01 (Math, Literature, Physics), and D01 (Math, Literature, English).

VNU-HCM Competency Assessment Test Score Percentile Table

The 2025 VNU-HCM competency assessment test attracted approximately 152,800 candidates, with over 223,000 test-taking instances. The average score for both rounds was 662.78. The highest scorer achieved 1,122 out of 1,200 points. The lowest score was 120. The results are used by over 110 universities for admissions.

VNU-HCM's calculations show variations in the score ranges between percentile rankings in the competency assessment test when compared with each high school graduation exam combination.

For example, candidates scoring between 901 and 898 on the competency assessment are in the top 15%, corresponding to 23.25-23.1 for the A00 combination. However, compared to the D01 combination, the top 15% in the competency assessment have scores between 875 and 870, corresponding to 21.95-21.8 on the high school graduation exam.

Minimum Entry Scores for 8 Member Universities of VNU-HCM

VNU-HCM is recruiting approximately 24,500 students this year. The main admission methods are: direct admission, priority admission according to VNU-HCM regulations; competency assessment test scores; and 2025 high school graduation exam results.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology considers a combination of academic transcripts, competency assessment scores, high school graduation exam results, and other achievements.

The minimum entry score for the 8 member universities ranges from 15 to 24, with the lowest being for the international joint programs at the International University.

This year, if multiple admission methods are used, universities must convert minimum entry scores and benchmarks using the percentile method. This is a statistical concept used to determine the relative position of a value within a dataset.

According to the universities' explanation, for this year's university admissions, if a candidate is in the top 5% of high school graduation exam scores, the equivalent score in the competency assessment test will also be determined so that the candidate is also in the top 5% of that test.
