Hoa Minzy's aerial stunt at concert sparks debate

Hoa Minzy's aerial stunt, where she released her hands and was held by her partner's feet at her debut concert, has been criticized as "reckless and dangerous".

The controversial move was a highlight of Hoa Minzy's performance of "Khong The Cung Nhau Suot Kiep" at her concert on 1/2 in Ho Chi Minh City. For the act, she collaborated with 24-year-old circus artist Trinh Ngoc Hieu, creating a dramatic moment that immediately captivated the audience.

During the performance, Hoa Minzy wrapped ropes around her wrists, soaring through the air in multiple spins. She then hooked her legs around her partner and continued to rotate. At the climax, she released both hands, allowing Ngoc Hieu to hold her in a balanced position using only his feet, without safety equipment. Some guests who witnessed the live show admitted they "skipped a beat" due to Hoa Minzy's daring performance. The concert also featured other aerial acts, including Hoa Minzy hanging in the air during the opening act, "Bat Tinh Yeu Len". While singing "Thi Mau", she recreated the traditional folk game of swinging, a cultural feature of festivals in the Northern region. The singer sat on a ring, held only by a single fabric strap in her hand, singing and interacting with fans as the ring swung around the stage multiple times.

Following the show, Hoa Minzy's aerial performance was widely shared on digital platforms, sparking a heated debate. While many fans praised the singer for her ability to create surprises and commended her courage, a significant number of opinions suggested the act was "reckless". Critics argued that such a performance "should only be for professional circus artists", questioning the necessity of the risk. Other audience members expressed concern, asking, "What if an accident happened at that height?" and "Is it necessary to gamble one's life on a performance?".

Addressing the concerns, Hoa Minzy stated she had practiced and meticulously planned the moves before incorporating them into the performance script. "I was confident enough to do it; it wasn't recklessness", she affirmed. The singer expressed her hope that these performances convey her effort and willingness to push boundaries to the audience. She added, "I believe the investment in these acts is worthwhile".

Circus artist Trinh Ngoc Hieu, who assisted with the act, confirmed that he and the team discussed the steps thoroughly, prioritizing safety. "Having worked in this profession for many years and performed this routine multiple times, I am confident", he explained. Ngoc Hieu also noted that Hoa's small physique did not pose a difficulty for him in maintaining balance. According to Ngoc Hieu, for the chosen act, using safety equipment would hinder the aerial movements and spins. He clarified that for more difficult routines, where safety gear is mandatory, he always complies. He also advised viewers not to attempt similar stunts without professional guidance or extensive training.

The team conducted multiple checks of the rope system before the performance. Ngoc Hieu also provided emotional and psychological encouragement to Hoa Minzy with phrases like: "You can do it" and "Just perform as you did in practice and trust me". Both artists trained for many days before the show. Ngoc Hieu instructed the singer on the technique of wrapping the rope around her hands for security. Regarding the aerial drop, he stated the most crucial factor is for the male performer to have sufficient strength to hold his partner with his feet and enough composure to execute the subsequent steps decisively and accurately.

The concert celebrated Hoa Minzy's 12-year singing career and marked 2025 as a year of success for her. She released a series of impactful products, earning 30 awards and commendations. The singer invested in the stage, sound, lighting systems, and fireworks displays. Guest artists included: Xuan Hinh, Quoc Thien, Duc Phuc, Erik, Tuan Cry, rapper Suboi, and Rhyder, contributing to the concert's excitement.

Hoa Minzy, 31, whose real name is Nguyen Thi Hoa, won the "Hoc Vien Ngoi Sao" program in 2014. After the competition, she embarked on a professional singing career, releasing hits such as: "Roi Bo" (Vu Huy Hoang), "Khong The Cung Nhau Suot Kiep" (Mr Siro), "Bat Tinh Yeu Len" (Tang Duy Tan), and "Noi Dau Giua Hoa Binh" (Nguyen Van Chung). In 2025, she released "Bac Bling", a project that became a sensation with nearly 300 million views on YouTube.
