Actor Xiu Jiekai admitted to forging health records to evade military service, a revelation made during his trial on 29/7. According to Ettoday, Xiu Jiekai confessed that in 2015, he spent 150,000 New Taiwan dollars (TWD) to create false documents claiming he suffered from high blood pressure, hoping to be exempt from mandatory military service.

However, his application was not approved. Instead, Xiu Jiekai enlisted in 2016 for non-military service, serving for one year. He was discharged after six months, citing his wife's pregnancy as the reason.

During the proceedings, Xiu Jiekai also disclosed details of the document forgery ring, including the individual who introduced him and the ringleader. Prosecutors have recommended a prison sentence of two years and eight months. In response, Xiu Jiekai's legal team requested a suspended sentence, highlighting his charitable contributions and promotion of public service initiatives during his military service period.

Upon exiting the courthouse, Xiu Jiekai clasped his hands and stated, "I am still in a phase of sincere reflection; regardless, I respect the court's decision and will continue to atone." Under Taiwan law, fabricating health information to avoid military service carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Xiu Jiekai was arrested in 10/2025 and subsequently released on bail after posting 500,000 TWD. At the time of his arrest, he issued an apology to the public via his management company, expressing his commitment to fully cooperate with the investigation. Jiekai wrote, "As a husband and father, I am deeply tormented by causing fear and worry to my wife and children."

This case is part of a larger investigation. Over the past two years, police in Taiwan and China have dismantled a document forgery ring led by a man named Chen. The investigation uncovered dozens of entertainment industry professionals who had evaded military service through the organization directed by Chen.

Xiu Jiekai and Jia Jingwen married in 2015 and are parents to two daughters, aged 11 and 9. Jia Jingwen has previously described her husband as someone who can be sensitive and quick-tempered but has learned self-control for her sake. The couple emphasizes open communication during disagreements and mutually addresses each other's shortcomings. Jia Jingwen, who experienced a previous divorce, expressed her happiness at finding the right partner. She also has a 21-year-old child from her prior marriage.

Both Xiu Jiekai and Jia Jingwen are prominent figures in the Chinese entertainment industry. Jiekai's acting credits include "It Started with a Kiss 2", "K.O.3an Guo", and "Light the Night". Jia Jingwen is widely recognized for her roles in acclaimed series such as "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 2003", "Lady Wu", and "Princess Taiping".
