Minh Tu: 'My mother-in-law taught me to live calmly'

Model Minh Tu says she sees her mother-in-law as a role model for nurturing marriage, learning to maintain a calm demeanor when facing life's situations.

Minh Tu and her husband, Christopher, have been in Germany since 10/6 to visit his family. Last year, they planned the trip but postponed it after Minh Tu suffered a ligament tear in her leg.

Minh Tu brought traditional Vietnamese green bean cakes, almond cakes, young rice flakes, and various teas as gifts, knowing they were her in-laws' favorites. The model shared that days before their arrival, Christopher's mother cleaned and tidied the house to welcome them. She also decorated shelves and cabinets with photos from their wedding.

Christopher's family lives in a small German town near the Dutch border, quite far from the city center, so they chose to relax and enjoy activities at home. The house is surrounded by many trees, providing fresh air. Each time she visits her husband's hometown, Minh Tu feels a sense of peace and closeness to nature. In the mornings, family members gather to have breakfast and coffee in the garden, while in the afternoons, they fish or play sports with the grandchildren.

After two years of marriage, Minh Tu noted her bond with her in-laws has grown stronger. She is close to Christopher's mother, who often advises her on how to maintain a happy home. According to the model, her in-laws live a simple life, and their view on marriage is equally straightforward. They prioritize respect, a factor that has kept their relationship strong for over 45 years.

As Minh Tu is not fluent in German, she communicates in English and relies on her husband to translate. A few months ago, after her leg surgery, Christopher's mother was concerned but could not visit due to her own health issues. They decided to meet in Turkey for a combined vacation. Minh Tu recounted that when she and her husband arrived at the hotel lobby, her in-laws were already waiting, holding a bouquet of balloons to welcome them. Her mother-in-law embraced her, and the first question she asked her daughter-in-law was, "Is your leg better now?" Minh Tu said, "Sometimes, even small gestures are enough to make me happy and appreciate this affection more than anything."

Minh Tu cherishes the first gift her mother-in-law gave her: a small pillow on her wedding day, which she still keeps carefully. Her in-laws value family meals, setting rules like no phones during gatherings, avoiding skipped meals, and limiting anger. Understanding the significance of these practices, Minh Tu has applied them to her own life and gradually feels herself changing, becoming gentler and less hot-tempered.

The beauty queen also shared that she and her husband do not feel pressured to have children. "I know everyone hopes we will have a baby soon, but everything needs more destiny. My in-laws are very understanding; they often encourage us instead of urging us. Christopher's mother advised me to remain calm in all situations because impatience rarely brings good results," she stated.

Each visit to Germany, Minh Tu sees the joy clearly in her husband's eyes. Christopher is the only son in the family; his older sister is married and has four children. When he found a girlfriend at age 42, everyone was supportive. Christopher's work requires him to travel globally, so he does not have much time for his relatives. Therefore, whenever he has the opportunity, he dedicates time to talk and care for his parents in various ways.

Currently, Minh Tu and her husband hope to arrange a direct meeting between their two families. Since they began dating, everyone has only communicated through phone calls. Minh Tu explained that after her father's passing, her mother's health was affected, so they must wait for a suitable time.

Minh Tu, 34 years old, from TP HCM, won the silver prize at Supermodel Viet Nam 2013. In 2017, she was the runner-up of Asia's Next Top Model and became a coach for The Face Viet Nam and a judge for The Look Viet Nam. In 2018, she earned the title Miss Supranational Asia. In 2020, she served as a coach for Asia's Next Top Model. Minh Tu also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as Hoa hau giang ho (2019), Bo gia (2021), and Nguoi tinh (2022).

Christopher is 10 years older than his wife and is an entrepreneur working in several European and Asian countries. They knew each other for 12 years before holding their wedding ceremony in 4/2024 in TP HCM.
