The show’s team shared the video of Tom Cruise on Instagram on 29/9. After emerging from his dressing room, the actor began to sway and dance as he heard everyone singing "Old Time Rock & Roll", a song featured in Risky Business, a teen comedy starring Tom Cruise, released in 1983. The track was performed by rock singer Bog Seger and released in 1978.
On the show, producers rewrote the lyrics to honor the actor’s current standing in the film industry. The new version included lines such as: "He’s a legend everyone knows. We’ve got Tom Cruise rock n roll".
According to Variety, the song also recalled one of Tom Cruise’s iconic moments in the film: a scene where he dances in a pink shirt, underwear, and sunglasses, lip-syncing to Bob Seger’s vocals. The video has garnered over 15 million views within days of its upload. Many accounts jokingly commented that no staff member wanted to take a day off on the day Tom Cruise was filming.
