On 15/5, talent agency Aoni Production announced on its website that voice actor Wakana Yamazaki passed away on 18/4. The funeral was held privately at the family's request. A representative from the agency stated, "We are deeply grateful for the kindness everyone showed her throughout her life."
According to ModelPress, her passing is a significant loss for the Japanese voice acting industry, especially for generations of fans who have followed "Detective Conan" for nearly three decades. Her final project was the 29th film, "Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway", which was released in Japan in April.
Yamazaki was born in 1965 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She was most recognized for her role as Ran Mori in "Detective Conan" since the series began airing in 1996. From February, Yamazaki paused her artistic activities to focus on health treatment. Starting with episode 1,193, which aired on 14/3, Akemi Okamura replaced her as the voice for the character, continuing in the role long-term.

Previously, Yamazaki voiced the character Nami in episodes 70-79 of "One Piece" in 2001, while Akemi Okamura, the regular voice actor for the role, was on maternity leave. Additionally, she lent her voice to other popular anime works such as "Marmalade Boy", "Mononoke", "Sailor Moon R", "Samurai Warriors", "The Secret of Akko-chan", and served as a narrator for the television program "Sunday Japon".
