The patient was one of two individuals initially treated at Long Khanh Hospital in Dong Nai, then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital due to his severe condition. Early this morning, an ambulance, carrying four people from Cho Ray to Gia Lai, struck the rear of a container truck parked on the access road to a rest stop on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway in Dong Nai. The vehicle subsequently erupted in intense flames. The accident claimed three lives at the scene: one patient, an accompanying passenger, and the ambulance driver.
On 18/12, Specialist Doctor Grade II Truong The Hiep, Head of the General Planning Department at Cho Ray Hospital, reported that the patient was admitted early that morning. The patient is currently receiving treatment in the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department for approximately 5% fire burns.
According to Mr. Hiep, the vehicle involved in the accident was a transport vehicle from an external unit. This unit had a contract with Cho Ray Hospital to access its premises for patient pick-up and drop-off. It was not a specialized ambulance belonging to the hospital. Consequently, neither the vehicle nor its driver were hospital staff.
