Experts discuss solutions to reduce antibiotic abuse

Over 100 medical experts, pharmacy representatives, and manufacturers discuss the reality of antibiotic abuse, guiding proactive healthcare approaches.

The LiveSpo Summit 2025, held in TP HCM on 26/11, focused on the theme "Joining hands with pharmacies - For an antibiotic-free future". Experts presented market data, trends in probiotic use, and changes in healthcare behavior. A key concern was the high rate of antibiotic abuse in Vietnam, highlighting the need for stricter control over drug use.

According to WHO, Vietnam recorded nearly 270,000 deaths related to antibiotic resistance between 2020 and 2023, a concerning level. Data from the global antimicrobial resistance surveillance program Smart (IHMA) indicates that Vietnam has a 39.6% rate of P. aeruginosa producing carbapenemase, the highest in the Asia-Pacific region.

Carbapenemase is an enzyme that destroys the carbapenem group, one of the most potent antibiotics available today. This resistance significantly challenges the effectiveness of treating severe bacterial infections. The persistently high resistance rate stems from antibiotic abuse, over-the-counter sales without prescriptions, and inappropriate treatment indications.

"The situation of antibiotic resistance in Vietnam makes infectious diseases difficult to treat, increasing both mortality rates and healthcare costs," emphasized Doctor Le Thi Tuyet Phuong, a specialist from Nhan Dan 115 Hospital, during her speech.

Following the presentation of the current situation, pharmacy representatives and experts received updates on proactive healthcare trends. They assessed the reality of antibiotic use and proposed solutions to limit abuse. Participants also explored scientific approaches to enhance natural health, aiming to reduce the need for antibiotics in many common cases.

Discussing solutions, LiveSpo representatives highlighted the importance of collaboration among businesses, experts, and the pharmacy system. This cooperation is crucial for providing accurate information to the public, improving consultation quality, and mitigating the risk of drug resistance.

"Pharmacies are a vital link in the healthcare ecosystem. Updating knowledge and data helps provide accurate advice, contributing to reduced reliance on antibiotics," said Doctor Nguyen Hoa Anh, founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of LiveSpo.

Doctor Hoa Anh also presented his company's approach to addressing this issue by balancing the microbiome at the body's seven gateways. A notable example is their liquid spore probiotic technology, which boasts high durability and has been proven safe and effective through clinical research published in international scientific journals.

During the event, LiveSpo representatives presented findings published in Communications Medicine (Nature Portfolio). The study showed that LiveSpo Navax nasal spray spore probiotics could shorten antibiotic use by one day in treating pneumonia in children, equivalent to a nearly 15% reduction in antibiotic dosage and rapid improvement of respiratory symptoms.

On the same day, LiveSpo inaugurated its representative office in TP HCM to expand its national presence. This move aims to strengthen cooperation with pharmacies in the Southern region and provide quick, effective support to customers.

The LiveSpo Summit 2025 aims to foster partnerships between businesses and pharmacies, contributing to reduced antibiotic reliance through scientific solutions. It also encourages the community to embrace proactive healthcare.

LiveSpo specializes in researching and developing liquid spore probiotics – a technology that ensures high durability for beneficial bacteria. These probiotics survive stomach acid and effectively act at target organs.

The company champions the mission "For an antibiotic-free future" by applying liquid spore probiotics in digestion, respiration, and other bodily gateways. This approach balances the microbiome and strengthens the body's first immune barrier, protecting it from pathogens like viruses and bacteria. Their products undergo independent clinical trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, with many peer-reviewed studies published in Nature Portfolio.
