Ho Chi Minh City's 168 medical stations to simultaneously offer free health check-ups to residents starting 17/4

Ho Chi Minh City is launching health screenings and disease detection programs for residents at all 168 ward, commune, and special zone medical stations, with the participation of doctors from 101 hospitals, starting 17/4.

On 13/4, Tang Chi Thuong, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, stated that this marks the first occasion the city has mobilized 101 hospitals alongside its entire grassroots healthcare system for such a large-scale, simultaneous screening program. This initiative follows a previous screening event held on 5/4 in observance of National Health Day.

Each disease group will be managed by appropriate specialist doctors, allowing residents to undergo checks for multiple health issues simultaneously, ranging from cardiovascular, endocrine, and musculoskeletal conditions to dental problems and other common ailments.

Instead of waiting or traveling long distances, residents can receive examinations at their local medical station, with results updated to their electronic health records. Following the examination, medical stations will categorize residents by risk level, create follow-up lists, schedule regular re-examinations, or refer them to higher-level facilities if abnormalities are detected. This approach aims to facilitate early disease detection, timely treatment, continuous management, and prevention of severe complications.

This initiative also prioritizes groups often overlooked in healthcare, such as the elderly, individuals with chronic diseases, freelance workers, and those at high risk. Separately, working women and female factory workers in specific areas will receive cervical cancer screenings in 16 wards and communes, conducted by obstetrics and oncology specialists.

"The launch on 17/4 is the initial step for a city-wide regular health check-up program for all Ho Chi Minh City residents in the coming years," Mr. Thuong said.

Currently, the Department of Health has finalized the project for health examinations, screenings, and disease detection for Ho Chi Minh City residents for the 2026 phase and subsequent years, which will be submitted to the People's Committee for review and approval.
