During seasonal transitions, rapid changes in temperature and air humidity can cause the skin to easily lose moisture, becoming dry, flaky, and dull if not properly cared for. Pharmacist Do Xuan Hoa, from the Medical Information Center at Tam Anh General Hospital, TP HCM, offers guidance on how to alleviate these conditions.
Proper moisturizing is crucial. Products containing hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin help limit trans-epidermal water loss and maintain the skin's protective barrier function. The ideal time to apply moisturizer is immediately after washing your face or bathing, when the skin is still slightly damp. Individuals with sensitive skin should select products specifically formulated for their needs.

Weekly exfoliation is also important. Excessive exfoliation can thin the protective stratum corneum, making the skin more prone to irritation and increased moisture loss. Exfoliating at an appropriate frequency, about one to two times per week, supports skin regeneration without damaging its protective barrier.
Sun protection is essential. UV rays from sunlight can directly damage the DNA of skin cells, destroying collagen and elastin, which leads to skin darkening, aging, and increased pigmentation. It is advisable to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses when outdoors, limit exposure to intense sun between 10h and 16h, and use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. This applies even on cloudy days or when indoors, to minimize skin damage and reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
A balanced lifestyle and proper nutrition significantly contribute to skin health. Going to bed early, getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and managing stress, combined with a healthy lifestyle, can help reduce dryness and dullness, promoting radiant and even-toned skin. A balanced diet rich in green vegetables, fruits, omega-3, vitamin C, and vitamin E, along with drinking two liters of water daily, helps maintain hydration and supports skin cell regeneration.
Supplementing with natural nutrients such as sakura (cherry blossom extract), p.leucotomos (from fern), litchi fruit essence (from lychee), and pomegranate (found in red pomegranates) can rebuild the skin's fundamental structure, nourish, and protect the skin from within, maintaining a bright, even complexion. Pharmacist Hoa advises that if dry, dull, or irritated skin persists despite adjusting skincare routines and lifestyle, a dermatologist should be consulted to identify the cause and ensure timely treatment, preventing prolonged damage.
