On 7/4, a representative from Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital announced that the donor sustained severe injuries in a traffic accident, and a medical council diagnosed him as brain-dead.
The hospital prepared four operating rooms, mobilizing nearly 100 medical professionals for the organ procurement and transplantation procedures on the afternoon of 6/4, with coordination from doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
The two kidneys were transplanted to two patients at Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. The heart, two livers, and two corneas were transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital and Central Eye Hospital for transplantation to five other patients.
As of this afternoon, all patients are under close observation following their organ transplants.

Doctor Tran Anh Cuong, Director of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, stated that this marks the second multi-organ donation and procurement case undertaken at the hospital. Two years ago, the hospital was the first facility in Quang Ninh to procure multiple organs from a brain-dead donor. Compared to that initial case, which focused solely on procurement, the hospital is now capable of performing two kidney transplants simultaneously within its own unit.
The hospital plans to implement advanced specialized techniques, such as liver and cornea transplants, in the near future.
To date, Quang Ninh has carried out three organ donation and transplantation procedures.

Organ transplantation stands as one of humanity's most significant medical advancements since the 20th century. It serves as a last-resort treatment for patients suffering from chronic, severe illnesses caused by irreversible functional decline of tissues and organs, including chronic kidney failure, liver disease, heart conditions, bone marrow disorders, and corneal damage.
The first organ transplant from a brain-dead donor in Vietnam was performed in May 2010.
