Quang Ngai province has agreed to provide financial support for pre-marital health check-ups for its residents. On 10/4, Nguyen Duc Tuy, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council (HDND), announced that the Provincial People's Committee (UBND) recently submitted this proposal, which the Standing Committee of the HDND approved. Tuy stated that the UBND will draft regulations detailing specific support levels for each case, in accordance with existing regulations, for the HDND to issue.
According to the Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, two key resolutions underpin this initiative: one supporting funding for pre-marital counseling and health check-ups, and another supporting contraception and family planning costs within the province. Both resolutions were developed in accordance with the 2025 Population Law, which takes effect from 1/7. This policy encourages men and women to proactively access pre-marital counseling and health check-up services, with the provincial government determining the financial support based on local conditions.

The 2025 Population Law also promotes prenatal and newborn screening for birth defects for pregnant women and infants, with funding supported by the state budget, health insurance, and other sources. While the government specifies the scope, eligible recipients, and support levels, local authorities can expand and supplement these within their jurisdiction.
Quang Ngai currently has a population of approximately 2,1 million, ranking 22nd nationwide. The province is one of the first localities to agree on developing a resolution to support funding for residents' pre-marital health check-ups, in line with upcoming regulations.
Pre-marital health check-ups involve general and reproductive health examinations for men and women before marriage, typically conducted one to six months before the wedding. This important process assesses reproductive potential, screens for genetic and infectious diseases, aids psychological preparation, and ensures safe sexual health.
Doctor Nguyen Tri Thuc, Director of Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM), previously proposed making pre-marital health check-ups mandatory for residents.
