On 10/4, Doctor Tran Hien Khoa, director of the Ca Mau Provincial Center for Disease Control, announced that epidemiological investigation, containment, and outbreak management measures were implemented to limit community spread.
The first patient was admitted on the evening of 7/4, presenting with lethargy, agitation, petechiae, severe vomiting, and a stiff neck. The patient was diagnosed with fever of unknown origin, suspected meningoencephalitis, and septic shock. A blood sample was sent to the Pasteur Institute in TP HCM for testing. The patient continues to receive treatment and monitoring.
The second patient was admitted on the evening of 8/4 with high fever, lethargy, and rapid breathing, quickly deteriorating. The patient entered a deep coma and died early on 9/4. Medical records indicated gastrointestinal septic shock along with multiple underlying conditions. Samples were collected and sent for testing to determine the cause of death.
The third patient was admitted on 9/4 after several days of prolonged high fever, accompanied by a cough, muscle pain, hypotension, and signs of pleural effusion. Upon admission, the patient had a fever and petechiae, leading to a diagnosis of suspected sepsis, dengue fever, and pneumonia. Cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples were sent for laboratory analysis to identify the causative agent.
An epidemiological investigation revealed that all three individuals had contact with a person who died in mid-march. This deceased individual had previously shown symptoms of high fever, petechiae, and hypotension.
Currently, health authorities have not recorded any new suspected cases. Individuals who had close contact are being monitored for 10 days. Officials are actively supervising the situation and are prepared to respond to any abnormal developments.
