Video of girl running one mile in bathtub draws nearly 2 million views

Cassie, 22, from Michigan, completed a one-mile running challenge in her bathtub in about 16 minutes, garnering 1,7 million views on TikTok.

A 22-year-old woman from Michigan has captivated TikTok users with her latest unusual running feat: completing a one-mile challenge inside her bathtub. Cassie's video of the confined run garnered over 1,7 million views and hundreds of humorous comments, with some users remarking, "this feels like a quarantine activity," and others adding, "typical upstairs neighbor behavior." This challenge followed an earlier one in November, where she ran one mile in her bathroom, drawing 5,3 million views. A commenter then dared her to attempt the same distance in a bathtub, which Cassie readily accepted, according to People.

"I wanted to do something crazy and spontaneous, and also something that could make people happy watching it," she shared.

Cassie described the one-mile bathtub run as challenging due to the cramped 0,6 x 1,4 m space, which allowed only a few steps before requiring a turn. About one-quarter mile into the run, her calves began to ache from the tub's awkward slope. She finished the challenge in approximately 16 minutes, a pace significantly slower than her usual running speed. "I had to keep turning around. The bathroom was also quite hot, so I was sweating profusely," Cassie recounted, noting that the run "felt like it would never end." Despite its unusual nature, she is certain she will attempt it again.

For those inspired to try similar unconventional workouts, Cassie offers a key piece of advice: "stretch thoroughly before running." She encourages embracing creativity in exercise, stating, "don't listen to anyone who says you're crazy. You can truly work out anywhere with anything." Her next objective is to complete a one-mile run in a standing shower.

While Cassie's challenge is unique, research consistently highlights the health benefits of physical activity. A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in May, conducted by researchers from Canada and Australia, found that high-intensity exercisers and fast runners live nearly 5 years longer on average than the general population. This 30-year study analyzed health data from 200 athletes who ran one mile in under 4 minutes during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Its conclusion emphasizes that consistent exercise, even at the highest levels, can contribute to a long and healthy life.

Further reinforcing these findings, a 2022 Harvard University study indicated that increasing physical activity beyond recommended levels can significantly reduce mortality risk by up to 30%. Additionally, in 2018, cardiologists observed that the first 20 athletes to complete one mile in under 4 minutes had lifespans 12 years longer than the average.
