Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced on 1/7 that its Ninh Binh facility is finalizing preparations for staff and equipment. Over 400 medical personnel relocated to Ninh Binh to take over the facility, ready for operations. Initially, the hospital will utilize 300 beds, with plans to expand to 1,000 beds as demand grows.
Associate Professor Duong Duc Hung, the hospital's Director, explained that this phased operation optimizes resources and cuts costs. Given its surgical specialization, only 10% to 15% of patients require surgery; others receive internal medicine treatment or observation. Opening all 1,000 beds immediately would therefore waste capacity.
"The facility will initially focus on high-demand areas like orthopedic trauma, spinal surgery, digestive surgery, and surgical emergencies," Mr. Hung stated. "This approach gives local residents quick access to specialized care and reduces patient transfers to Hanoi."

The hospital adopts staffing levels for a special-grade medical facility, maintaining a ratio of 1,2 to 1,5 doctors per bed. Approximately 400 doctors will work on a rotating basis. To ensure staff sustainability, the facility has recruited and trained over 60 young doctors in specialized techniques over the past 5 years.
Under Government Resolution 32/2026, medical staff at the Ninh Binh facility receive a monthly attraction allowance of up to 15,6 million VND, plus travel and housing subsidies.
Hospital leadership confirmed that the second facility is an "integral part of the overall organizational model, not operating separately". Asset, human resource, and financial management are synchronized through a software system to ensure transparency.
The Viet Duc Friendship Hospital's Ninh Binh facility, with a 1,000-bed capacity, broke ground in 2015 and involved an investment of approximately 5,000 billion VND. After years of delays, the project is now operational as planned, following government directives to resolve issues and ensure investment effectiveness.
The opening of Viet Duc Hospital's Ninh Binh facility follows Bach Mai Hospital's second facility, which started medical examinations and treatment on 26/6. The presence of these two leading hospitals in Ninh Binh establishes a high-quality medical cluster. This development significantly eases the burden on Hanoi's healthcare facilities and provides local residents with optimal treatment options.
