Carrying a handgun for self-defense while transporting billions in drugs

Nguyen Tien Dung carried a handgun while transporting 15,000 synthetic drug pills and 4.585 grams of ketamine from Ha Tinh to Cua Lo ward for delivery to a partner.

Nghe An Provincial Police have detained Nguyen Tien Dung, 35, from Son Tay commune, Ha Tinh province, for criminal investigation. He faces charges of illegal drug transportation under Article 250 of the Criminal Code.

Dung's arrest occurred on 15/10 when the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, collaborating with inter-agency forces, ambushed him in Cua Lo ward. Officers caught him transporting 15,000 synthetic drug pills and 4.585 grams of ketamine. Dung had disguised the "goods" in nylon bags, which were then divided into many small packages.

Authorities found a handgun during a search of Dung. He confessed to transporting the drugs from Ha Tinh to Nghe An for delivery to a partner, claiming the handgun was for "self-defense."

Investigators have identified Dung as a key link in an inter-provincial drug ring. The seized drug shipment carries an estimated value of billions of dong.

Dung has a criminal record, including previous convictions for property theft and illegal possession and transportation of drugs.
