This morning, the standing committee of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Wastefulness, and Negativity agreed to place the case involving "violations of bidding regulations causing serious consequences"; "giving bribes"; and "receiving bribes" at the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and related units under its monitoring and direction.
The decision follows the temporary detention of Vu The Phiet, ACV's chairman of the board of directors. On 5/3, ACV announced it received notification from the Police Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security regarding Phiet's arrest for "violations of bidding regulations causing particularly serious consequences" and "receiving money to facilitate contractors winning bids".
Also arrested with Phiet was Nguyen Tien Viet, a member of the board of directors, deputy general director in charge of ACV's executive board, and concurrently director of the Long Thanh International Airport project management board.
ACV, a major state-owned enterprise, has a charter capital exceeding 35,828 billion VND. The Ministry of Finance holds a 95.41% stake, representing state capital. The corporation manages and operates 23 airports nationwide, including 11 international airports. ACV is also the investor for the Long Thanh International Airport project, with an estimated total investment of about 336,630 billion VND.
